Ingredients
Scale
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 cup self-rising flour
- 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar, divided
- 1 ½ tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ½ cups boiling water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Place the butter in an 8-inch square baking dish and let it melt while the oven heats.
- In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, ¾ cup of sugar, and 1 ½ tablespoons of cocoa powder. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract until smooth.
- In a separate small bowl, mix the remaining 1 cup of sugar with ¼ cup of cocoa powder.
- Take the baking dish out of the oven. Pour the flour mixture over the melted butter without stirring. Evenly sprinkle the sugar-cocoa mixture on top.
- Gently pour the boiling water over everything. Do not stir.
- Bake for about 30 minutes or until the top is set. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
- For a richer flavor: Use dark cocoa powder instead of regular cocoa.
- Want extra gooeyness? Bake for a few minutes less to keep the sauce extra molten.
- Make it gluten-free: Substitute gluten-free self-rising flour for a gluten-free version.
- Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
