  • Total Time: 2 hours 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dough:

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 ¼ cups warm water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

For the Sauce:

  • 1 ½ cups canned San Marzano tomatoes (crushed)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp sugar

Toppings:

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup fresh basil leaves
  • Optional toppings: pepperoni, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, olives

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough (Prep Time: 2 hrs)
    • In a small bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–7 minutes until frothy.
    • In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture and olive oil, mixing until a dough forms.
    • Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 1–2 hours until it doubles in size.
  2. Make the Sauce (Cook Time: 15 min)
    • Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Sauté garlic until fragrant.
    • Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and sugar. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let cool.
  3. Assemble the Pizza Pie (Cook Time: 10–12 min)
    • Preheat your oven to 500°F (260°C) and place a pizza stone or steel in the oven.
    • Roll out the dough into a 12-inch circle. Transfer it to a parchment-lined pizza peel.
    • Spread the sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust. Add cheese and your desired toppings.
  4. Bake and Serve
    • Slide the pizza onto the preheated stone or steel. Bake for 7–10 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
    • Garnish with fresh basil and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Let the dough rise in a warm spot for better texture.
  • Adjust the amount of sugar in the sauce based on the sweetness of your tomatoes.
  • For a crispier crust, brush the edges with olive oil before baking.
